Bible Cheat Sheets

Clint suggested I post the cheat notes again for anyone who wants some quick scripture verses... these have been invaluable to me. Just scale them to fit your bible size and print!

Burbank Media Center - 5/30/09 - FOLLOW UP

There were a lot of people out at the Media Center last night. CBC had a great turn out with Sharon, Mike and Joanne, Forest, Alvin, and myself. Also Derrick, Dean and Sai came out, they are always a blessing to serve with. Also the Jordan family made a cameo appearance to pray and support us. One highlight for me was a guy who was sitting and got a tract from Sai, then a bible from Mike... he sat a read and read and read that bible. He even listened to us open air preach and thanked us for the bible. Who knows what the Lord was doing in his heart?

You may ask what it the tombstone pic about? I wanted to ask your input on something. What is your impression of our evangelism efforts at the Burbank Media Center location?

Personally; I've been feeling like this particular place compared to say NOHO or Hollywood is drowning in affluence. Do you think we are having an impact there or are we throwing tracts away with little return on witnessing? I don't want to move away from this location until I hear your thoughts about it.

An Open Air Experiment

I just read this quote from Spurgeon on Open Air preaching and it really inspired me to try an experiment the next time I preach without amplification:

"It will be very desirable to speak so as to be heard, but there is no use in incessant bawling. The best street preaching is not that which is done at the top of your voice, for it must be impossible to lay the proper emphasis upon telling passages when all along you are shouting with all your might. When there are no hearers near you, and yet people stand upon the other side of the road and listen, would it not be well to cross over and so save a little of the strength which is now wasted?

A quiet, penetrating, conversational style would seem to be the most telling. Men do not bawl and halloa when they are pleading in deepest earnestness; they have generally at such times less wind and a little more rain: less rant and a few more tears. On, on, on with one monotonous shout and you will weary everybody and wear out yourself. Be wise now, therefore, O ye who would succeed in declaring your Master's message among the multitude, and use your voices as common sense would dictate."

I'm going to see if I can draw a crowd not by preaching loudly so as to be heard from 50 ft away but 10 feet away. Check back for a FOLLOW UP...

EVANGELISM CALENDAR FOR JUNE

Since I have to put specific dates on the permit for Glendale I thought I would post the Evangelism Schedule for the month of JUNE:

  6th - Glendale (144 Brand Blvd.) 5:00-8:00 p.m.
13th - NOHO Subway station/Hollywood 4:00-8:00 p.m.
20th - Burbank Media Center 5:00-8:00 p.m.
27th -  Glendale 5:00-8:00 p.m.

Burbank Media Center - 5/30/09

We'll be at the Burbank Media Center next to the AMC this Saturday from 5:00-8:00 p.m.

The reason being is that we were in NOHO/Hollywood last week and we need a sound permit for Glendale before we can open air preach there. Which I will try to take care of before next week.

Please bring you own tracts as the tract well has run dry until the Lord provides. I do have some FREE tracts everyone is welcome to use... but they are FREE tracts if you know what I mean, you may be getting some cold shoulders using these bad boys!

Drop the Bomb Episode 15

There is no Episode 14... if anyone is wondering.

Spurgeon quote of the day! 5/29

AMEN! AMEN!

"Our object is to turn the world upside down; or, in other words, that where sin abounded grace may much more abound. We are aiming at a miracle: it is well to settle that at the commencement. Some brethren think that they ought to lower their note to the spiritual ability of the hearer; but this is a mistake. According to these brethren, you ought not to exhort a man to repent and believe unless you believe that he can, of himself, repent and believe. My reply is a confession: I command men in the name of Jesus to repent and believe the gospel, though I know they can do nothing of the kind apart from the grace of God; for I am not sent to work according to what my private reason might suggest, but according to the orders of my Lord and Master. Ours is the miraculous method which comes of the endowment of the Spirit of God, who bids His ministers perform wonders in the name of the holy child Jesus. We are sent to say to blind eyes, "See," to deaf ears, "Hear," to dead hearts, "Live," and even to Lazarus rotting in that grave, wherein, by this time, he stinketh,—"Lazarus, come forth." Dare we do this? We shall be wise to begin with the conviction that we are utterly powerless for this unless our Master has sent us, and is with us. But if He that sent us is with us, all things are possible to him that believeth. O preacher, if thou art about to stand up to see what thou canst do, it will be thy wisdom to sit down speedily; but if thou standest up to prove what thine almighty Lord and Master can do through thee, then infinite possibilities lie about thee! There is no bound to what God can accomplish if He works by thy heart and voice. The other Sabbath morning, before I entered the pulpit, when my dear brethren, the deacons and elders of this church, gathered about me for prayer, as they are wont to do, one of them said, "Lord, take him as a man takes a tool in his hand when he gets a firm hold of it, and then uses it to work his own will with it." That is what all workers need; that God may be the Worker by them. You are to be instruments in the hands of God; yourselves, of course, actively putting forth all your faculties and forces which the Lord has lent to you; but still never depending upon your personal power, but resting alone upon that sacred, mysterious, divine energy which worketh in us, and by us, and with us, upon the hearts and minds of men."

NOHO Subway Station - Today 3:00pm

If anyone would like to join me I'll be at the subway today at 3:00 p.m. Please bring tracts as I am low on good ones. I may have some... um ... FREE ones if you know what I mean!

FOLLOW UP: It amazes me how you can never judge a book by its cover, so many people that I see "must think I'm crazy" but the Lord draws those very people to come up and take a Gospel of John after I preach. I had 4 people want one. One girl who looked to be dressed in a "worldly fashion" had such a sense of heaviness as she came and got one. Also a young couple who sat afar of who were smiling at first then listened... then each wanted one. There was also a crew of heavy metal teens who had heckled me before, I got to share the good news with 3 of them one "Alex" took a Gospel and another named "Frodo" who APOLOGIZED for heckling me and then said "I've never really listened to people when they do that (street preach) but when I listened to you, I said... that fool makes SENSE." Isn't that amazing?! I also got into a couple of heated discussions with two guys "Circus" and "Charlie"... they both vehemently opposed the bible but I still managed to drop the bomb! Please pray for all these people and me, its hard to go out there alone. Glory to God.

PRAY FOR ROSA!!

Today, I went up to Burbank Media Center to preach (there was barely anyone there) as I was driving I came to a stop light and looked over to see ROSA!

She heard us open air preach a while ago and even came to visit CBC a couple of times. She has ended up going to a Spanish church in Burbank because her mom only speaks Spanish, she has been going regularly and reading her bible! Rosa said since she met us she has been praying regularly and has had a sense of peace.

Please pray her salvation is real and that she grows in the Lord.

NOHO/HOLLYWOOD 5/26/09

Yesterday I went out on my own for about 2 hours to NOHO and Hollywood. I didn't know what to expect given the issues in CA with Prop 8 stuff, but the Lord's grace gave me the ability to preach 3 times, hand out some tracts and I even got to witness to a Jewish girl who said she never told a lie, stole anything, perfectly obeyed her parents and never lusted... she could not escape anger in the heart! I started to talk with her about Isaiah 53... and her bus showed up! She did take a tract.

The first two times I preached were so wimpy, no one took a gospel of John or even heckled me... the third time I preached I would like to think the Lord gave me (As Leonard Ravenhill would say) some HOLY GHOST FIRE! Five people came up and took a Gospel of John! And I got heckled twice!

Which leads me to the Spurgeon quote of the day:
"The command to the man who would be a true servant of the Lord Jesus Christ is, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind." If a man is to be a soul-winner, there must be in him intensity of emotion as well as sincerity of heart. You may preach the most solemn warnings, and the most dreadful threatenings, in such an indifferent or careless way that no one will be in the least affected by them; and you may repeat the most affectionate exhortations in such a half-hearted manner that no one will be moved either to love or fear. I believe, brethren, that for soul-winning there is more in this matter of earnestness than in almost anything else. I have seen and heard some who were very poor preachers, who yet brought many souls to the Saviour through the earnestness with which they delivered their message. There was positively nothing in their sermons (until the provision merchant used them to wrap round his butter), yet those feeble sermons brought many to Christ. It was not what the preachers said, so much as how they said it, that carried conviction to the hearts of their hearers. The simplest truth was so driven home by the intensity of the utterance and emotion of the man from whom it came that it told with surprising effect. If any gentleman here would present me with a cannon-ball, say one weighing fifty or a hundred pounds, and let me roll it across the room; and another would entrust me with a rifle-ball, and a rifle out of which I could fire it, I know which would be the more effective of the two. Let no man despise the little bullet, for very often that is the one that kills the sin, and kills the sinner, too. So, brethren, it is not the bigness of the words you utter; it is the force with which you deliver them that decides what is to come of the utterance. I have heard of a ship that was fired at by the cannon in a fort, but no impression was made upon it until the general in command gave the order for the balls to be made red-hot, and then the vessel was sent to the bottom of the sea in three minutes. That is what you must do with your sermons, make them red-hot; never mind if men do say you are too enthusiastic, or even too fanatical, give them red-hot shot, there is nothing else half as good for the purpose you have in view. We do not go out snow-balling on Sundays, we go fire-balling; we ought to hurl grenades into the enemy's ranks."

NOHO/HOLLYWOOD Adventure - FOLLOW UP

The Lord is good and so gracious to give us this ministry. To be out there with my evangelism family in Christ proclaiming the truth and seeking the lost is such a JOY in my life!

WE HAD SUCH A BLAST!!!

There were 10 of us total: Clint, Sharon, Faith, Jeremiah, Dean and his wife, Derick and myself started in NOHO and we were joined in Hollywood by Kareem and Rasheedah.

NOHO - Was great, Dean and myself open aired. At one point the Lord worked in 4 peoples hearts to want a gospel of John! Lots of tracts and witnessing went on. I had a particularly angry guy named Patrick who was furious with me that I told him that Jesus said we are evil. He didn't like the idea that there was no good in him at all.

HOLLYWOOD - Was CRAZY as usual. I can't believe this spot is only a 15 minute subway ride from my house! We all had opportunities to share the good news and hand out lots of tracts. Derick, Kareem and myself all open air preached. Over all we handed out about 2200 tracts!! We all left tired and rejoicing!

This open air is a little long, but you get the idea. It was all worth it for the ONE guy at the end...

NOHO IS A GO!

Okay so we are meeting at the NOHO station tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. We'll be there an hour or so then go to Hollywood!

Hope this next segment helps to equip you for action!

Spurgeon quote of the day! - Repentance

"Together with undivided faith in Jesus Christ there must also be unfeigned repentance of sin. Repentance is an old-fashioned word, not much used by modern revivalists. "Oh!" said a minister to me, one day, "it only means a change of mind." This was thought to be a profound observation. "Only a change of mind"; but what a change! A change of mind with regard to everything! Instead of saying, "It is only a change of mind," it seems to me more truthful to say it is a great and deep change—even a change of the mind itself. But whatever the literal Greek word may mean, repentance is no trifle. You will not find a better definition of it than the one given in the children's hymn:—

"Repentance is to leave
The sins we loved before
And show that we in earnest grieve,
By doing so no more."

"True conversion is in all men attended by a sense of sin, which we have spoken of under the head of conviction; by a sorrow for sin, or holy grief at having committed it; by a hatred of sin, which proves that its dominion is ended; and by a practical turning from sin, which shows that the life within the soul is operating upon the life without. True belief and true repentance are twins: it would be idle to attempt to say which is born first. All the spokes of a wheel move at once when the wheel moves, and so all the graces commence action when regeneration is wrought by the Holy Ghost. Repentance, however, there must be. No sinner looks to the Saviour with a dry eye or a hard heart. Aim, therefore, at heart-breaking, at bringing home condemnation to the conscience, and weaning the mind from sin, and be not content till the whole mind is deeply and vitally changed in reference to sin."

C.H. Spurgeon - "The Soul Winner"

Spurgeon quote of the day! 5/22

"...to win a soul, it is necessary, not only to instruct our hearer, and make him know the truth, but to impress him so that he may feel it. A purely didactic ministry, which should always appeal to the understanding, and should leave the emotions untouched, would certainly be a limping ministry. "The legs of the lame are not equal," says Solomon; and the unequal legs of some ministries cripple them. We have seen such an one limping about with a long doctrinal leg, but a very short emotional leg. It is a horrible thing for a man to be so doctrinal that he can speak coolly of the doom of the wicked, so that, if he does not actually praise God for it, it costs him no anguish of heart to think of the ruin of millions of our race. This is horrible! I hate to hear the terrors of the Lord proclaimed by men whose hard visages, harsh tones, and unfeeling spirit betray a sort of doctrinal desiccation: all the milk of human kindness is dried out of them. Having no feeling himself, such a preacher creates none, and the people sit and listen while he keeps to dry, lifeless statements, until they come to value him for being "sound", and they themselves come to be sound, too; and I need not add, sound asleep also, or what life they have is spent in sniffing out heresy, and making earnest men offenders for a word. Into this spirit may we never be baptized! Whatever I believe, or do not believe, the command to love my neighbour as myself still retains its claim upon me, and God forbid that any views or opinions should so contract my soul, and harden my heart as to make me forget this law of love! The love of God is first, but this by no means lessens the obligation of love to man; in fact, the first command includes the second. We are to seek our neighbour's conversion because we love him, and we are to speak to him in loving terms God's loving gospel, because our heart desires his eternal good."

NOHO - Today

Praise the Lord! I went out to NOHO today and after I open aired was joined by Steve. We handed out about 200 tracts and 3 Gospel of Johns! Steve also open aired for the FIRST TIME!!

I can't tell you how blessed I have been to see the Lord move in men at CBC to be bold for the gospel! So far Clint, Kareem, Dan, Dave and Steve have had the "terrifying joy" of serving the Lord in heralding the words of everlasting life in the open air... GLORY TO GOD!!

NOHO/HOLLYWOOD Adventure - 5/23/09

Okay how about this for evangelism this Saturday: we all meet at the NOHO Subway Station at 4:00 p.m. hand out tracts, open air and witness for an hour or so then grab a subway to Hollywood and do the same there and go back to NOHO.

This is just an idea, I have no clue as to how long the subway ride will be, but it could open up some interesting opportunities.

Please post comment feedback for this idea.

Terminator Salvation

I went up to Hollywood Blvd. today and had a hard time handing out tracts. There were not a lot of people out there for some reason and those that were didn't take them like usual.

I remembered a guy I spoke with earlier told me about an advanced free screening of Terminator Salvation at Graumins Chinese Theater, so I walked over and there was a line of about 200-300 people waiting to get in! I had a great opportunity to preach to the crowd, I'll admit I was a bit scared but the Lord gave me the strength. I even got to use my amp, so hopefully they could hear me. PRAISE THE LORD!

NOHO Subway Station - 5/19/09 - FOLLOW UP

I had a great morning with Tony, Michelle at Noho. We handed out hundreds of tracts. Tony and I both preached, after the first time 4 people took gospel of Johns! A guy named Jim took one he asked about CBC, maybe we'll see him.

Something super funny that happened today was that a young guy walked by and asked me "Don't you guys ever sleep?" I just smiled... later today I went to Hollywood Blvd; the SAME GUY walked by me as I was preaching again! I told Him the Lord really loved him to have him hear the gospel 2 times in the same day, we both laughed.

NOHO Subway Station - 5/19/09

Law Man and I will be at the NOHO subway station this morning from 8:00-9:30 a.m. if anyone would like to join us.

Burbank Media Center - 5/16/09 - FOLLOW UP

It was a great evening for me because there was such a good turn out from CBC: Sharon, Faith, Dave, Ryan, Clint and myself. Other brothers Derrick and Dean joined us even a cameo from the Barnfathers. Dave got to open air preach for the FIRST time ever! Praise the Lord, He gave Dave courage. Did a great job! We handed out over 1000 tracts and I saw a lot of witnessing. 6 Gospel of Johns and a New Testament were given out.

After I open aired two really sweet ladies (Margarita, Blanca) came up and gave me $13 and told me to keep it up! Think of this: Blanca told me she is too scared to open air preach (no problem, not everyone is called to that ministry) but she gave $3 towards evangelism. That $3 can buy a pack of 100 Million Dollar Bill gospel tracts that we can hand out. She can potentially effect 100 people for Christ by her gift... THAT is investing in eternal friends!

What an encouragment and a blessing. Good work fellow laborers!

We did have the Burbank Police come by because someone called in a noise complaint. God gave us the grace to communicate peaceably and still hold our ground.

We plan to find 4 spots to rotate on a regular schedule... will keep you posted.

DAVE PREACHING

Burbank Media Center - 5/15/09

We plan to be at the Media Center this Saturday 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. next to the AMC. However tonight(friday) I'm going to go and "recon" the NOHO subway area to see if that may be a potential new Saturday night location.

NOHO Subway Station - 5/14 Follow up

That place is so great for evangelism! It was Law Man, Michelle, Clint and myself. Tony and I both open aired twice, the first time 3 people took a Gospel of John. Praise God! We handed out hundreds of tracts and I got to witness 2-on 1 with a couple sets of people.

When you drive away there are still hordes of people.

Spurgeon quote for the day! 5/14

This is so good to remember when not only dealing with one another on issues of doctrine, but the attitude we should have sharing the Gospel to someone who is spiritually blind.

Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. John 11:24 & 25

"I beg you to observe how the Lord Jesus Christ in great wisdom dealt with Martha. In the first place, He did not grow angry with her. There is not a trace of petulance in His speech. He did not say to her, "Martha, I am ashamed of you that you should have such low thoughts of me." She thought that she was honouring Jesus when she said,—"I know, that even now, whatsoever Thou wilt ask of God, God will give it Thee." Her idea of Jesus was that He was a great prophet Who would ask of God and obtain answers to His prayers; she has not grasped the truth of His own personal power to give and sustain life. But the Saviour did not say, "Martha, these are low and grovelling ideas of your Lord and Saviour." He did not chide her, though she lacked wisdom,—wisdom which she ought to have possessed. I do not think God's people learn much by being scolded; it is not the habit of the great Lord to scold His disciples, and therefore they do not take it well when His servants take upon themselves to rate them. If ever you meet with one of the Lord's own who falls far short of the true ideal of the gospel, do not bluster and upbraid. Who taught you what you know? He that has taught you did it of His infinite love and grace and pity, and He was very tender with you, for you were doltish enough; therefore be tender with others, and give them line upon line, even as your Lord was gentle towards you. It ill becomes a servant to lose patience where his Master shows so much.

The Lord Jesus, with gentle spirit, proceeded to teach her more of the things concerning Himself. More of Jesus! More of Jesus! That is the sovereign cure for our faults."

NOHO Subway Station - 5/12/09

Went over to the NOHO station pretty much with the objective to open air preach. Tracts are already running low! What a blessing.  Six people wanted Gospel of Johns, got to 1-on-1 with a guy named Bill (who was a Buddhist) he tried to get me to stop preaching by telling the security guard, which they couldn't. After I open aired I got an opportunity to talk 1-on-1 with him, and he ended up taking a Gospel of John also. Once when I open aired an "Emergent Christian" named Drew had issues with the message and the "narrowness" of it. Of course he also had issues with there only being one way to heaven, hell, sin and the authority and reliability of the bible.  He ended up taking a tract and my cell number.

That place is such an evangelism JEM! God is good!!

Spurgeon quote of the day! 5/12

"YOU WHO DESIRE TO SAVE SINNERS. You must, dear friends, bring the truth before them when you want to bring them to Jesus Christ. I believe that exciting meetings do good to some. Men are so dead and careless that almost anything is to be tolerated that wakes them up; but for real solid soul-work before God' telling men the truth is the main thing. What truth? It is gospel truth, truth about Christ that they want. Tell it in a loving, earnest, affectionate manner, for God wills that they should be saved, not in any other way, but in this way—by a knowledge of the truth. He wills that all men should be saved in this way—not by keeping them in ignorance, but by bringing the truth before them. That is God's way of saving them. Have your Bible handy when you are reasoning with a soul. Just say, "Let me call your attention to this passage." It has a wonderful power over a poor staggering soul to point to the Book itself. Say, "Did you notice this promise, my dear friend? And have you seen that passage?" Have the Scriptures handy. There is a dear brother of mine here whom God blesses to many souls, and I have seen him talking to some, and turning to the texts very handily. I wondered how he did it so quickly, till I looked in his Bible, and found that he hind the choice texts printed on two leaves and inserted into the book, so that he could always open upon them. That is a capital plan, to get the cheering words ready to hand, the very ones that you know have comforted you and have comforted others. It sometimes happens that one single verse of God's word will make the light to break into a soul, when fifty days of reasoning would not do it. I notice that when souls are saved it is by our texts rather than by our sermons. God the Holy Ghost loves to use his own sword. It is God's word, not man's comment on God's word, that God usually blesses. Therefore, stick to the quotation of the Scripture itself, and rely upon the truth. If a man could be saved by a lie it would be a lying salvation. Truth alone can work results that are true. Therefore, keep on teaching the truth. God help you to proclaim the precious truth about the bleeding, dying, risen, exalted, coming Savior; and God will bless it."

HOLLYWOOD ADVENTURE-5/9/09 - FOLLOW UP

WOW! Umm... a good and bad wow! GOOD-because we had such a good turn out with 11 of us going out to Hollywood this Saturday! We handed out about 1400 tracts!! Amazing. There were almost too many people on Hollywood Blvd. For some reason everyone had difficulty getting 1-on-1 encounters, because the hordes of people were just moving! But several people did get some 1-on-1's.

Dean and myself both open aired which leads me to the BAD... I had yet to be "physically assaulted", (I put that in quotes because it really wasn't assault it was more of a bump.) But as I open aired four 20 something, heavy metal looking folks, 2 girls, 2 guys walked up and well see for yourself...
.. right after this another girl came up and told me she was and angel and that Jesus was not God, Kendle was a "human pick" and talked with her allowing me to keep preaching. Shortly after which a lady came up with her 2 kids and gave me $5 and a guy with a cane listened to me for quite a while then shook my hand. Watching this video didn't discourage me, it makes me want to go out AGAIN!

God is so good in all of this and glory to Him! I was so encourage and feel so blessed to serve with other saints who love the lost and fearlessly go into an environment that may not be the safest!
