Yes, Christ's righteousness has been credited to us (those in Christ), and His works in that regards are VERY MUCH important and a part of both salvation and our ongoing relationship with the Father through Him!

I was emphasizing (or focusing on) the issue of treating Christ's salvation as MERELY (the "alone" part) His obedience to the Law (implied driver: because we broke the Law), which excludes (even mitigates) His baring of the wrath of God on our behalf.

So, if I understand your question rightly, it's AND :) My concern when writing was when only Christ's obedience to the Law (He obeyed because we didn't) was preached as salvation TO THE EXCLUSION OF explaining Christ's propitiatory work on the cross (sacrifice that bore the wrath of God).

The blog was aimed in that "not-just-about-law" direction, so I know I didn't qualify every statement, but it is a good point you raise and I like the way you put it that we need our sins atoned for (propitiatory work of Christ) and His righteousness credited to us.

Does that answer the question, or...?

JPAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10006469578084510679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5029096087277890911.post-71879670712354534862016-02-16T11:26:25.886-08:002016-02-16T11:26:25.886-08:00Hey Jeremy,

We should exalt Christ in our preaching first and foremost. I'm a little confused about Pitfall #2- could you please clarify what you mean when you said:

"Put in another, highly simplified way, this version is “You need to jump over the Law-hurdle to be saved but, since you can’t, Jesus jumped it for you.” Brothers - that’s a works based religion in disguise! All that has been done is to offload the works onto someone else. If our salvation is on the basis of Him fulfilling the Law (alone), then it still makes works, and not faith, the means of salvation."

You wrote "alone" are you saying that we can be in error by ONLY sharing this to the neglect of the message of the cross? OR we should share both/and?

As we need both our sins atoned for AND His righteousness credited to us for salvation this confused me a little. "For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness." - Romans 4:3 NKJV

Thank you for keeping up the blog and your desire to see the gospel proclaimed faithfully,

DavidDavid Selvaduraihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03943875473420699698noreply@blogger.com
