Whoever Believes 11/15/2014

Then Peter opened his mouth and said: “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ—He is Lord of all—that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”  (Acts 10:34-43 NKJV)

The Glendale malls have become our new favorite spot for fishing. Hundreds of souls pass by each minute, and there are no competing amplifiers or entertainers. Indeed, at times there is a peculiar hush which pervades the area, allowing for clear, heartfelt proclamation of the gospel message.

Dr. Jack:  "God is good because He is just. We get angry with a God who is going to judge us for the bad things we have done, and we say, 'That's a cruel God who is going to judge me,' No, He's a good God. He judges liars and murderers and thieves. In other words no one will get away with the things they thought they had gotten away with. Before God, you will not get away with those things. However, there is good news . ."

Dean:  We're living on a fallen planet. Right here on this corner this is about as nice as it gets. Most of the world doesn't live like this. We've been given so many blessings here in America. We've been given so much material wealth and fortune that we can live our lives as if we don't need God. We can have a false sense of security because we have a place to sleep at night, and we have food, and we can think, "I don't need God. I can live my own life independent from Him." Please don't do that! If you die without Christ you are lost forever! Jesus said, "What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his eternal soul." Folks, the Bible says 78 times that you need to repent. If you ignore that Holy sacrifice that Jesus provided on the cross then what can you expect? If you don't want to know the holy God in this life, you're not going to be with God in the next life.

Steve was blessed to have the only heckler of the evening who asked, "If God has a path for every person's life then why does He make some people atheists?" (Ed. note: What a great question! Loaded with false presuppositions. If you would like to leave your own answer, click on the comment link at the end of this post.)

Steve: God's desire is for all to come to saving faith through His Son Jesus Christ, and when we rebel against that, then we are outside of His will. Our problem as human beings is that we rebel against this glorious God who created us. That's why we are under the curse of sin and death even to this day. Adam and Eve sinned against Him by disobeying His only commandment. Whether we rebel against Him or deny He exists, it's the same thing; sin.

Mark added: There is no such thing as an atheist. We suppress the truth in unrighteousness.

Unfortunately the heckler left to cross the street. His tone was challenging yet polite. Perhaps the conversation could have continued longer if the man on the box had thought to introduce himself. This is often forgotten in the pressure of the moment, but it helps to reduce excess conflict and prompts the heckler to stick around longer. A heckler is always good for drawing a crowd.

  1. "If God has a path for every person's life then why does He make some people atheists?"

God doesn't "make" some people atheists. Atheists are what God would call a fool in scripture. "The fool has said in his heart there is no God."

Atheists know there is a God they just suppress the truth in unrighteousness and need to repent just like everyone else.

    Then drop the Gospel bomb!
