Gideon Distribution - Mission College

My son and I went up to Mission College today to help with the Gideon distribution of bibles. Well... its not easy to do with a four year old. It was hot. At one point I tried to reward my son with a popsicle and he was attacked by a bee TWICE. He was a trooper. We handed out about 150 tracts and a dozen or so bibles. Was blessed to share the gospel 1 on 1 with two students. My son waited very patiently. Its always worth it.

Please pray for Lionel who thought he was a Christian but had no idea what he would say to God if he died and the Lord asked him "Why should He let him into His Kingdom?" I think I'm actually getting worse at sharing the gospel. Thank the Lord He uses us many time in-spite of us. Here is most of our conversation... post bee attack!

Spurgeon quote for the day! 8-24-10

"As I sat last year under a wide-spreading beech, admiring the most wonderful of trees, I thought to myself, I do not think half as much of beech tree as the squirrel does. I see him leap from bough to bough, and I feel sure he values the old beech tree, because he has his home somewhere inside it in a hollow place, these branches are his shelter, and those beech-nuts are his food. He lives upon the tree. It is his world, his playground, his granary, his home; indeed it is everything to him, and it is not so for me, for I find my food and rest elsewhere. With God's Word it is well for us to be like squirrels, living in it and living on it. Let us exercise our minds by leaping from bough to bough of it, find our rest and food in it, and make it our all in all. We shall be the people who get the profit out of it if we make it be our food, our medicine, our treasury, our armory, our rest, our delight. May the Holy Spirit lead us to do this and make the Word thus precious to our souls."

Morning devotion - C.H. Spurgeon August 24th

"The breaker is come up before them." — Micah 2:13

Inasmuch as Jesus has gone before us, things remain not as they would have been had He never passed that way. He has conquered every foe that obstructed the way. Cheer up now thou faint-hearted warrior. Not only has Christ travelled the road, but He has slain thine enemies. Dost thou dread sin? He has nailed it to His cross. Dost thou fear death? He has been the death of Death. Art thou afraid of hell? He has barred it against the advent of any of His children; they shall never see the gulf of perdition. Whatever foes may be before the Christian, they are all overcome. There are lions, but their teeth are broken; there are serpents, but their fangs are extracted; there are rivers, but they are bridged or fordable; there are flames, but we wear that matchless garment which renders us invulnerable to fire. The sword that has been forged against us is already blunted; the instruments of war which the enemy is preparing have already lost their point. God has taken away in the person of Christ all the power that anything can have to hurt us. Well then, the army may safely march on, and you may go joyously along your journey, for all your enemies are conquered beforehand. What shall you do but march on to take the prey? They are beaten, they are vanquished; all you have to do is to divide the spoil. You shall, it is true, often engage in combat; but your fight shall be with a vanquished foe. His head is broken; he may attempt to injure you, but his strength shall not be sufficient for his malicious design. Your victory shall be easy, and your treasure shall be beyond all count.

"Proclaim aloud the Saviour's fame,
Who bears the Breaker's wond'rous name;
Sweet name; and it becomes him well,
Who breaks down earth, sin, death, and hell."

HOLLYWOOD FOLLOW-UP 8-21-10

Last night was AMAZING!! We started off the evening with fellowship and pork BBQ sandwiches at our home. The team was Debbie, Mark, Sharon, Mike, Kareem, Rasheeda, Dean, Sai, Nathan, myself and when we got to Hollywood Blvd. Pastor Tim and his whole "brood" joined us.

Here some tourists got their pictures with a couple "Evangelism Stars" (Hanna and Carissa).

Just the other day I went and picked up an order of 20,000 Giant Hundred Dollar Bills printed by Miller Sherwood Printing. They did such a great job. We've already distributed well over 2000 of them!! Below Mike is handing out Millions, Mark is witnessing and Nathan is preaching his guts out.

The highlight for myself was when I did a little trivia to draw a crowd and within 3 questions the Lord drew such a big crowd that I got nervous and forgot the trivia questions. I immediately asked a girl (Thalia) if she thought she could pass the good person test and the crowd stayed. Honestly I think it was the biggest crowd I have preached to yet. Most of them stayed for the WHOLE gospel presentation and we even gave out about 10 bibles and Pocket Gospel of Johns at the end!! Praise the Lord!

Burbank Media Center Follow-up 8-20-10

Dean, Sai and I joined up with Lawman, Joey and their team in Burbank last night. Joey and his guys have been going to Burbank for about 4 years and they ran into the same problem with the "Burbank Ambassadors" that we did. Dean had a good crowd here. But again the Police showed up and the Ten Commandment sign, Einstein standup and preaching box were all BANNED!! The advice we got from the police was to go onto PRIVATE property which would then put us at risk of being reported by security there. Bottom line... they just don't want us there!
This is getting just plain sad. Thankfully we were allowed to preach but with no elevation or things to draw a crowd (which was also frowned upon). Tony got his cross to start conversations, I was able to preach once but with SUPER LOUD drums in the background.
Please pray for the Lord to open doors for the gospel in-spite of opposition.

Hollywood today

Today Dean and I went to Hollywood blvd. to preach. IT WAS HOT! But well worth it. You can make plenty of excuses to not go but the weather seems to be a weak one, though I have done it in the past and regretted it.

Was blessed to have the Lord draw a small crowd on the Blvd today! Even got to meet the guy who Kirk Cameron witnessed to. He and a friend needed some encouragement for things they are struggling with. Please pray for them.

Noho this morning

I just got back from Noho this morning. Within 5 minutes of being there the Lord opened up a wonderful conversation with a young man named Christian. The conversation started because he had a copy of Darwin's "Origin of Species". Christian was born with MS and we spoke for about an hour and a half! He was totally open to the gospel. During mid conversation I sat down on my box to speak with him and another young man walked by, over heard us, sat down and listened. He said he had anxiety in his life, heard me talking about God and it brought him peace. So he listened to the gospel as well. Both of them took a Gospel of John! Praise the Lord!!

IceBreakers

Spurgeon quote for the day! 8-17-10

"And He said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within and defile the man.”

Mark 7:20-23.

"THE NEST FROM WHICH THEY COME. Now that we have seen these evil beasts, we will go and look at their den. Let us make a journey there. No, you need not feel for your money to pay your fare—I am not going to take you very far. I do not ask you to quit your homes, or even your pews. There is not even need for you to stretch out your hand to feel for this foul nest of unclean birds—you can keep your hand upon your bosom and it will not be far off from the lair wherein these evil things are lurking, ready to leap forth whenever occasion offers. Our Lord Jesus Christ says, “All these evil things come from within.” “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts.” The source from which these rivers of pollution proceed is the natural heart of man! Sin is not a splash of mud upon man’s exterior, it is a filth generated within himself! Now this is a very different story from that which we sometimes hear from thoughtless people. “Oh, yes, he used to swear. He was unkind to his wife and family—no doubt he took too much drink—but he was a good-hearted fellow!” What an awful lie! His heart could have been no better than that which came out of it. Yet how common it is to say, when a man dies, “Well, poor man, he is gone! There was no fear of God or man about him. He was a passionate, drunken man and so full of vice that no one was safe near him, but he was good at bottom.” A likely story, is it not? The water which came up in the bucket was black and putrid, but, no doubt, at the bottom of the well it is clear as crystal! Do you believe it? If men bring to market baskets of fruit which upon the top are rotten, they will not be believed if they say that they are, “good at bottom.” If the goods in the window are worthless, the stock in the warehouse is not much better. You can only judge of a tree by its fruits—and if I gather sour crabapples from a tree, I shall not believe that it is a golden pippin! If grapes, when fully ripe, are sour, we cannot believe that the vine which bears them is a sweet one! Our Savior makes short work of the lie that the life may be impure and yet the heart is good!"

Great news for evangelism in CA malls!!

Burbank Media Center Follow-up 8-14-10

Well last night was interesting at Burbank Media center. Clint, Jordan, Sharon, Mike & I went out to seek the lost. Mike set up his heckler mic which is always great. We were handing out tracts etc.

I started to preach and 3 young kids came up and one jumped on the mic. His name was Matt he was 9 yrs old! This started to peek the interest of people walking by when I was approached by a representative from the "Burbank Ambassadors":
MEET THE DOWNTOWN AMBASSADORS

Downtown Burbank's Ambassadors are dedicated to making customer visits informative and enjoyable. You'll see them answering questions from the public, giving directions, and generally being additional "eyes and ears" for the district. They communicate potential nuisances and hazards to the Burbank Police Department, and are good conduits for you to report issues like graffiti, spills or overflowing trash cans.

I guess we were a "potential nuisance" because he asked me to get down off the box, which unless someone is a police officer I do not. The police showed up and (seemed reluctant) to ask us to break down our set up for concern of not obstructing the flow of traffic. Which we complied.

They permitted us to keep preaching with a portable amp. Myself and Mike stuck to it and the Lord drew a group of teens to hear from Mike the good news!! Sadly he had to answer questions about gay marriage from 13 year olds... what a world.
I then tried to do some trivia to draw a crowd and I was immediately confronted AGAIN by the Burbank Ambassadors and asked to get down off the box. Which I denied. They threatened us with citations, took my picture... etc. I finished sharing the good news and we all went and had a burger at Johnny Rockets. Good times!! Please pray for the Ambassadors and those who heard the Gospel and received tracts!

Spurgeon quote for the day! 8-14-10

“And He said, That which comes out of the man, that defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: all these evil things come from within and defile the man.” Mark 7:20-23.'

First, this morning, think, dear Brothers and Sisters, with deep self-abasement, of THE SWARM OF SINS. I seem to have broken open a wasp’s nest and the stinging creatures fly out in number, numberless! Here are 13 words, each one of them teeming with all manner of evils. Matthew, when he condenses the Savior’s utterances, mentions seven of these horrible things, one of which is omitted here, but Mark is more full in this instance and mentions 13 items of abomina- tion. I am struck with the legion of foul spirits which are here set free, as if the door of the Bottomless Pit had been opened! As armies of locusts, or as swarms of the flies of Egypt, so are sins! As the wilderness was full of fiery serpents and scorpions, so is this world full of iniquities. The very names of them are a pain to the ears! Let us bow our heads in sor- row as we read the muster-roll of this legion of terror—“Evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covet- ousness, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.” Now, notice first, that this awful catalog, this horrible list of the unclean birds that find a cage within the human heart, begins with things that are lightly regarded among men—“evil thoughts.” “We shall not be hanged for our thoughts,” cries one! I wish that such idle talkers would remember that they will be damned for their thoughts and that instead of evil thoughts being less sinful than evil acts, it may sometimes happen that in the thought, the man may be worse than in the deed! He may not be able to carry out all the mischief that lurks within his designs and yet, in forming the design, he may incur all the guilt! Thoughts are the eggs of words and actions—and within the thoughts lie com- pacted and condensed all the villainy of actual transgressions. If men did but more carefully watch their thoughts, they would not so readily fall into evil habits! Men first indulge the thought of evil and then the imagination of evil—but the process does not stop there. Picturing it before their mind’s eye, they excite their own desires after it—these grow into a thirst and kindle into a passion. Then the deed is speedily forthcoming—it was long in the hatching, but in a moment it comes forth to curse a whole lifetime!"

Noho this morning

Was blessed to go to Noho again this morning. While handing out tracts I saw this dear lady reading the Million Dollar bill. I asked her if she read the whole thing, she did. So I handed her a Gospel of John which she began to read immediately. Praise the Lord. You never know do you? Today could be her day of salvation.

Please pray for her, the homeless guy who listened to the gospel and the JW's who are constantly looming around the station.

Noho this morning

The past three mornings in a row the Lord has given me the privilege to go to Noho subway to preach the good news. I have been so blessed and had several great opportunities to share the Gospel one on one and open air preach. Today about 6 people again took bibles.

Just to encourage those who are to fearful to hand out tracts. The photo above was of a young lady who found a Chick Tract (This is your life) that someone left. I've seen them lying around there before. After I had finished preaching the lady typed out on her phone that she was hard of hearing. She took a bible. Sometimes tracts can reach certain people that open air-preachers cannot. Keep being faithful!

Please pray for: "Christmas" who listened and gave me a free candy bar after I preached. He took a Gospel of John. Abdul the "Cookie Guy" very nice Muslim guy who was open to hear the good news and said he would read Isaiah 53.

A Quick Trip to Hollywood 8-11-10

Where else can you hand out several hundred tracts and open air to countless passer byres in an hour and a half?Hollywood! Dean, Sai, Aldo and myself took a quick trip there today. Praise the Lord!

Please pray for Jason (who was a mild mannered heckler) and those who heard the good news and got tracts.

HOLLYWOOD FOLLOW-UP 8-7-10

This past Saturday eleven of us went out for the first time in about 3 months to Hollywood Blvd. For those who don't know in early May the Hollywood police were doing a "clear and sweep" of all street performers and costume people on the Boulevard this also included evangelists. Myself and another brother both got loitering tickets which (thank the Lord) were dropped when the ACLJ went to bat for us. So we decided to go back out again. I'm sure the devil would love to keep us away because on a good night we hand out about three to four thousand tracks! It is a major tourist hub and a great opportunity to export the gospel.

Praise the Lord, no one got into any trouble but sadly its not the same boulevard anymore. Its lost its life. We still had good time and lots of opportunities to share the good news. Please pray for: Gale (58 year old agnostic, doesn't believe in original sin & that Jesus is God), Barron (an "intellectual" who recently left a cult), Reese and his family and the angry Muslim lady (she is the one yelling at Sharon in the picture above). Glory to God!

So much for "the rule of law"

This is telling... Christians WAKE UP and share the Gospel while you can!

These kinds of things are happening more and more. You can see some other ways Christians are being silenced HERE.

"Power Ranger" the Baptist

Sorry I couldn't resist showing you this picture of my son. He totally did this on his own. The weird thing is he has only seen me preach once. Right now he his preaching on how "we need our armor and sword", also that "we need a new heart and to obey God" and that "He is a holy God."

Also that "we need a bible."

Map to Noho Subway Station

Here is a map of where we will meet at Noho Subway station in North Hollywood. We'll meet directly in the Chandler side parking lot for tracts and prayer. You can Google directions directly to the Noho Station HERE.

The reason we are doing this is because we lose a lot of witnessing time on nights we go to the subway station when we have to meet at the church, then go to the subway, then get on the subway...blah blah blah... this should save time.

EVANGELISM CLASS AT CBC

Elder Bob is having an evangelism training class at Calvary Bible Church THIS TUESDAY, AUGUST 3rd from 7:00-9:00pm in Room WC-3. Come with your questions about evangelism and learn an effective method for sharing your faith.

Roman & Jorge

Our own Drew Morgan at CBC is working on a Christian television series that centers on two characters learning evangelism... this looks hilarious to me! I look forward to seeing the full episodes. You can find out more about Roman and Jorge HERE.
