Chariots of Iron 8/1/2015

Then Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, “You are a numerous people and have great power. You shall not have one allotment only, but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders. For you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.” (Joshua 17:17-18)

Burbank Car Show 8/1/2015

Brother Mark's countenance reflects the mood of cheerful receptiveness that prevails at the car shows. People often let down their guard when they encounter the giant $100 bills and that means that many receive our tracts willingly. Indeed, roughly TWO THOUSAND were passed out during the two hour outreach, glory to God.

Dean and Sai make an unstoppable team. They are always gracious and unselfishly dedicated to sharing the Gospel.

Another wonderful thing: Seeing people opening, reading and discussing the tracts.

Entertainment comes in many forms, and these guys seem to have Svengali-like powers of attraction. People seem to be held transfixed by the minimalist movements and throbbing pre-recorded music. Some things never change.

This was a welcome sign. At least 20 or 30 people, wearing bright orange shirts, were running around handing out postcards. City Lights Church is opening nearby to CBC in Burbank. They have a rather enigmatic website. Let us pray that this is a bible-based church that we can partner with to glorify Jesus Christ.

Yes, there were many cars at the car show. The Avanti was our own favorite.

This was a first. After spotting this shirt and snapping a picture, Steve tried to catch up to this fellow and engage him in conversation, but he disappeared without a trace. The best opening line Steve could come up with was (or would have been): "So, there really IS a God?"

Please email your ideas for an opening line and follow up approach for this bold statement of unbelief to us and we will share them with the team.

Is there such a thing as an idolatrous prayer? Seems to us that this Hot Rodder is asking God to bless his prideful self-indulgence. Just sayin'.

The Lord blessed the team with many opportunities to hand someone the Truth that saves.

Brother John is a traveling evangelist, all the way from Scotland, who studied at seminary but heeded the call of God upon his heart to travel wherever the spirit would lead him to share the gospel. So far he has been to France and the U.S. and several other countries and has totally relied upon the the Holy Spirit moving in the hearts of strangers for support. He has been attending Grace Community Church and Calvary Bible Church since coming to town about 3 weeks ago. Brother Eric from Grace has given him temporary lodging. Many times, though, he has slept outside, or in forests or bus stations as he seeks to be faithful to this unusual call. His message is a simple one: "Repent, and believe the Gospel!"

This newly married couple took some time out from their reception to wander among the cars and to pose for a portrait with one of the classic show cars.

This year's event was much bigger and more exciting than previous years.

We will never know for sure, but perhaps brother Dean had the privilege of handing out the 2,000th tract as we packed up and looked forward to the Glendale show on August 29th.

Morning Shift - NoHo Metro Station  8/5/2015

Richard and Steve were blessed to be joined by first-timer Erin and visiting evangelist John from Scotland.

Please stand with us on Wednesdays at 6:00 AM at the North Hollywood Metro Station on Lankershim Blvd. It's a great opportunity to share the truth with the thousands of commuters who pass through this area. Please watch for text announcements on Tuesday evenings. Please always RSVP if you plan to join us on Wednesday mornings.

Abortuary Duty  8/5/2015

After the NoHo outreach, John, Steve and Erin drove out to Mission Hills to join the effort. John was very interested to learn, from Don, about abortion clinic witnessing firsthand. Don told about a recent example of the impact this ministry makes.

Don:  It's amazing when you come here and do this and you realize that God has used you to save the life of a child. We had a guy come by about a month ago in a red SUV. He drove up and he said, "Hi, my name is Justin, and I want to show you a picture of my child Jacob. Me and my girlfriend came here to have an abortion, and we saw people out here and we left." They just drove on by. We didn't even know. He never even talked to us. They just saw people here and they left. That was amazing.

Brother Tony Miano was in town and he took the opportunity to support Don's ministry here, a ministry he started several years ago. Tony spent a while preaching from the front of the building up to the second floor windows where the waiting room for the clinic is located. This is the video he posted of that session.

At a later point Tony rejoined the team standing by the parking lot entrance. A woman who was evidently escorting a pregnant woman into the clinic came out to confront Tony and his sister, Sherrie, who was also visiting. Don said that he has encountered this woman several times before as she escorted pregnant women into the clinic. She apparently has the dubious distinction of being an accomplice or enabler to the murder of innocent children. By coming out and engaging the witnesses in a confrontational way she gives the would-have-been mother a chance to enter the building without risking the discomfort of a disturbed conscience.

Not long after this discussion ended, the police arrived.

Don explained what we were doing in a way that assuaged the police. They left on good terms.

You can join the effort at the Mission Hills clinic, 10200 Sepulveda Blvd., 91345, every Saturday and Wednesday morning from 8 to 10 am. No experience necessary.
