Glendale Outreach (09/30/2017)

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

James 5:13-20 (ESV)

If God is sovereign, has declared the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10), doesn't change His mind (Numbers 23:19, Malachi 3:6), already knows what you need (Matt 6:8), and knows what you are going to say before you can even form the words (Psalm 139:4), then why bother praying?  Watch as RC Sproul Explains...

Burbank Outreach (09/23/2017)

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. For
     “Whoever desires to love life
     and see good days,
     let him keep his tongue from evil
     and his lips from speaking deceit;
     let him turn away from evil and do good;
     let him seek peace and pursue it.
     For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
     and his ears are open to their prayer.
     But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”
Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil.
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.

Burbank Outreach (09/16/2017)

May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
     may the LORD rejoice in his works,
who looks on the earth and it trembles,
     who touches the mountains and they smoke!
I will sing to the LORD as long as I live;
     I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
May my meditation be pleasing to him,
     for I rejoice in the LORD.
Let sinners be consumed from the earth,
     and let the wicked be no more!
Bless the LORD, O my soul!
Praise the LORD!

Psalm 104:31-35

Peter's Second Sermon

While he (the lame man who was healed) was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement. But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you, but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all.
“And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time. Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days. It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ For you first, God raised up His Servant and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.” (Acts 3:11-26 NASB)

Burbank Car Show, August 5, 2017

Just one of many classic cars receiving worship on the streets of Burbank on this pleasant Saturday evening. People were in a festive mood. We always have a great time passing tracts to people eager to receive them.

The blaring soundtrack from the deejay tent rendered any effort to preach futile. But the giant $100 bills went like hotcakes. Whenever we would run out we would just go the the nearby ATM and withdraw some more. (Not really, of course.) Our beloved brothers Don, Ron and Charlie from Grace Community Church drove out from Mission Hills to join us for the event.

One lady came back for more tracts after someone fashioned a wrist band out of a giant $100.

Jack engaged this woman in a lengthy conversation which introduced her to the gospel which she had never really heard before.

Although most people were intently inspecting car after car, some conversations took place.

Well over 2,000 tracts went out, and many were eager to read them right away.

Many tracts were happily received. Glory to God!
